About Our Speaker: Charlie Woodrum

(adopted from Oklahoma State Meteorology Club)

Mr. Charles "Charlie" Woodrum is a Journeyman Forecaster (General Meteorologist) with the National Weather Service (NWS) at the Weather Forecast Office (WFO) in Pittsburgh, PA. Throughout the early part of his career, Woodrum has focused his efforts on outreach in the community, operational event case studies, implementing new technology, and the development of local emergency plans for hazardous weather. Woodrum has highly valued coordination and collaboration with fellow meteorologists, emergency management, and the public. Charlie attended Florida State University (FSU), earning a B.S. degree in Meteorology in 2008. During his undergraduate career, Woodrum maintained a work study as an observer for the campus weather station and coordinated a project to make FSU the first StormReady recognized school in Florida. He also served as President of the North Florida AMS during the period of 2007-2008. During his tenure, the organization achieved the National AMS Local Chapter of the Year honor. Woodrum first gained experience with the NWS as a volunteer with the WFO in Pittsburgh, PA in 2006. In 2007, Woodrum was selected for the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) with the WFO in Tallahassee, FL. As part of the SCEP program, Charlie was granted a non-competitive promotion to the WFO in Wilmington, OH as a Meteorologist Intern in 2008. Charlie was promoted to the WFO in Pittsburgh in September of 2009, becoming one of the youngest forecasters in the National Weather Service at age 23.
