  • The National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office (WFO) in Jacksonville, FL is planning Weatherfest 2011 to be held in Jacksonville this upcoming February. We will be looking for volunteers to travel there and help educate the public about meteorology, the North Florida Chapter of the AMS, and weather safety. Currently though, we are accepting ideas and volunteers to help us organize for the event. Transportation in currently in the works so you may not have to drive yourself. As this event is in the future, more details will be emerging as time goes on, but reserve the date now so we can have a strong showing of volunteers representing North Florida's AMS! If you would like to make a suggestion or volunteer to help, please contact our Treasurer, Kate Guillet.

The 2010-2011 year marks the chapter's 9th year of existence. In our first eight years, our programs have been recognized by the national AMS in receiving mention on the Local Chapter Honor Roll in 2003-2004, 2006-2007, and 2009-2010; and their ultimate honor, Local Chapter of the Year in 2004-2005, 2007-2008 and most recently in 2008-2009.

We work closely with local area schools, community outreach organizations, the Florida State University Department of Meteorology, the Tallahassee Weather Forecast Office of the National Weather Service, educational/outreach organizations, and local television stations to promote meteorology within the community.
